IC1318 - Gamma Cygni or Butterfly Nebula
The constellation Cygnus is an astrophotographer's dream. Straddling the plane of the Milky Way, this constellation is rife with emission nebulae, dark nebulae and dust clouds galore. Point a camera just about anywhere in Cygnus and you're bound to pick something up. Here is the area surrounding Gamma Cygni (Sadr). The main focus is the "Butterfly Nebula", also known as IC1318. This image was captured with a Canon 300mm EF-L lens coupled to an SBIG ST-8300M through a Baader 12nm Hydrogen Alpha filter. It is the result of twenty 300 second exposures stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and post-processed with Photoshop CS5.
