Crux, the Southern Cross, is the smallest constellation with four bright stars in the shape of a cross. Crux is located in a dense area of the Milky Way southwest of Centaurus and north of Musca. Crux is not visible from the contenental US, but can be seen near the horizon from Hawaii.
Among the notable objects on Crux are the Coalsack, a naked-eye visible dark nebula and several open clusters including NGC4755, the Jewel Box.
Crux is the smallest constellation covering just 68 square degrees, but is the 15th brightest constellation. Crux reaches opposition on March 28.
